The Resiliency Factor Podcast

Jan 13, 2021

During this episode of the Resiliency Factor, I talk about a few ways that you can help ease the overwhelm and angst you may be feelin during a time such as this, when many things are uncertain and seem out of our control.

Uncertainty is capable of wreaking havoc on our minds and our bodies if we allow it to. Often times, when we are uncertain of a particular outcome, our mind goes to the worst possible case scenario. This is because we simply lack the evidence or facts to support any solid or tangible outcome. Thus, our mind has no choice but to run wild and imagine all of the things that can go wrong. There is a better way, however. When you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the uncertainty of a situation or the world at large, there are two primary things you can do.

Key Highlights from the Episode

1.  Rather than listening to anecdotal evidence from others that you catch on social media, TV, or in person, do your own investigative research. For example, if you are looking to launch a high ticket group coaching program, and everywhere you turn you hear others talking about how no one is buying high ticket coaching programs in this economy, take a minute to actually ask yourself is this a fact or is this simply hearsay? Then, find your demographic that you would like to offer your course to and actually go to them. Ask them what they are looking for. Conduct market research and ask them questions such as:
  • Is this a program that you would be interested in right now?
  • Is this something you would be willing to invest in right now?
  • How much would you be willing to invest in it?

You can make up your own set of questions, but essentially what is most important is that you gather information before you make a decision that based on hearsay or out of fear. If, after you've asked your demographic what they want and they tell you they want your course, then go ahead and launch it. However, if you receive feedback that it's not the right time or that people may not have the funds to pay for it, then go back to the drawing board and rework it so that it does fit people's needs. Consider offering an extended payment plan or changing the content of the program to match your clients' needs. The one thing you can't do is allow your mind to go down a rabbit hole and spiral out of control without anything to substantiate the figments of your imagination.

2 .  In the event that you find yourself already spiraling out of control, which would be understandable given the current circumstances of the world right now, you can stop yourself before you go down the rabbit hole even farther. One of the ways to pull yourself back up and out is to simply stop resisting. Be still. Take a deep breath and acknowledge that God or a power greater than yourself is with you. You are not alone and you are not hopeless or helpless.

Recognize that with the support of God, you are strong enough and resilient enough that you are able to bounce forward from wherever you are. Interrupting your self-destructive thought pattern, even for a few seconds, may be all you need to get back on track. Remember, just because you've started to go down a rabbit hole doesn't mean you have to continue down the rabbit hole.

In short, give yourself the grace to know that right now, in this very moment, is a trying time for many folks around the globe. It's okay that it is, but recognize that you have more control over who or what you allow to come into your mind than not. Guard your mind and do what you have to to protect your energy. You can do this. I know you can. Besides, you owe it to yourself to at least give it a shot, right?
